A 20-year-old man shot early Thursday morning was listed in critical condition at a local hospital Thursday afternoon with a gunshot wound to the head.

Pink bicycles and baby strollers cluttered the yard and porch of 2138 E. 27th St. near a pool of dried blood on steps where 20-year-old Michael Johnson was shot.

Clay Holiday told Chattanooga police that he and Mr. Johnson were sitting on the porch shortly after midnight when a dark-colored car with tinted windows approached.

A passenger in the vehicle rolled down the window and fired several shots at the men, police said.

Mr. Holiday ran inside the house. When he came back outside, he found Mr. Johnson with a gunshot wound to the head, police were told. The victim was rushed to a local hospital.

This is the 31st shooting with injuries in Chattanooga this year, and there also have been six homicides, according to newspaper archives.

“We really don’t have an accurate description of the vehicle other than it was dark-colored,” said Sgt. Jerri Weary, a spokeswoman for the Chattanooga police department.

Based on witness information, one person fired from the passenger side of the car, but police do not know how many occupants were inside, she said.

The sunlit street was calm Thursday afternoon except for chirping birds and passing traffic. Neighbors did not answer knocks on their doors.

Major crimes investigators did not return calls seeking further comment.

* Jan. 2 — Body of Jimmy Yearby, 40, found in the middle of Sanders Road, dead of an apparent gunshot to the head.

* Jan. 3 — Jeffrey Jones, 49, shot in the back at 952 N. Orchard Knob Ave. Kenneth L. Flint was charged with the shooting.

* Jan. 9 — Jonathan Lawrence, 42, shot and killed while pumping gas at the Kanku’s at 3440 Wilcox Blvd. Montez Davis was charged with first-degree murder, reckless endangerment and illegal possession of a firearm.

* Jan. 9 — Inah Garner, 29, shot in the finger during the crossfire of another shooting that Montez Davis was involved in.

* Jan. 27 — Glen Bailey, 21, shot twice by his girlfriend’s brother at 2008 Bennett Ave.

* Feb. 6 — Terry Marshall, 39, shot in the chest at 1501 Roanoke Ave.

* Feb. 7 — A 2-year-old child is shot when a bullet pierces the car window near 1300 Wilcox Blvd.

* Feb. 11 — Darius Robinson, 21, shot in the leg while driving past the Kanku’s on Wilcox Boulevard.

* Feb. 14 — Gweniqua Strickland, 22, shot in the abdomen, arm and leg while on the couch inside the residence at 4115 Dorris St. Shots came from outside the home.

* Feb. 21 — Denzel Lloyd, 18, shot while walking to his car after a teen party at the Loose Cannon Art Gallery, 1900 Rossville Ave.

* Feb. 21 — Minnie Moore, 77, grazed in the back and on her elbow by bullets that came from outside her home at 1900 Wilson St.

* Feb. 27 — Terrance Etchison, 27, shot and killed at the Kanku’s on Wilcox Boulevard.

* Feb. 27 — Cecil Franklin Stodghill, shot while bartending at the LG Lounge at 830 Dodson Ave.

* March 13 — Juvenile shot in the left side of the neck while seated in an SUV at 4600 Rogers Road.

* March 13 — 16-year-old male shot in the lower left leg at 1941 Heaton St.

* March 17 — Two juveniles shot on the porch of 1113 N. Hawthorne St. in a drive-by. One is shot in the left foot and the other in the right leg.

* March 26 — Marquis McReynolds, 18, and a 15-year-old male shot at 1953 Southern St. Mr. McReynolds was shot in the side, and the 15-year-old was shot in the stomach. Police charged two suspects, ages 16 and 17, with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

* March 27 — Quincy Bell, Kevin Tucker and Andreonna Buchanan, all 18, and two juveniles are shot in the legs and buttocks during a gathering of an estimated 250 people in Coolidge Park. Police arrested Anthony Frieson, 18, Taurean Patillo, 18 and a juvenile in connection with the incident.

* March 30 — RaShaun Dontae, 20, was shot in the buttocks at 2210 Duncan Road after an argument over a woman
